My 56 yr old rifle and savage edge getting an up grade

Picked up two new vortex Tactical rifle scopes.
New vortex rings, picatinny for my savage edge/axis.. to get proper eye focal ,
Still needs scope leveled and cross optic aligned. I will have to red neck it. Plum plob and rifle levels. One 10-32 screw on the savage had moisture. Wicked in from rain, and slightly corroded. Was a pita to remove. But I got it.
I have medium strength loctite, and inch pound wrench. I think the ring gap between the clamps way to large. I going to add precision shim stock prevent over tightening.
Trick I learned designing and building fixtures.
O well, for this ol blind guy it makes a diffrence.
I would like to practice 300-500 yards.
But actual hunt 300 yards max.

Vortex are good value and great customer service when needed. I’ve started adding Vortex pistol red dots too as my guns age…

The price was very resonable. And upgrade aging rifles. Old 308 mossberg, and 243 savage.
Still very Kill rifles for coyote, deer, pigs, and small and medium game

100% great calibers, 243 ammo is high these days but otherwise as great as ever.

Well scope #2 is leveled and bore sighted.success.
My personal observation these scopes are way more delicate then my old scopes.
It seems one could sneeze on it and change it. No more rough handling.
The Piccadilly pros and con. The con: My observation as a machinist and engineer. The contact surfaces has to be parallel. And the surfaces has to be fit the contour of the rifle. If not it will or could cause errors for proper mounting.
The pro: it is way easier to set eye focal.
Observation : the surface of Piccadilly should only make contact just over the mounting tapped holes. In between it should be slightly relieved. Just slightly mils.
Anyway scope #1 is on a return authorization to vortex. Got a response in same day, with a shipping label and a one page fill in and sign sheet.
I may shop for a spare scope. For a back up.
I still looking at a new rifle
I changed my mind and could again 7 mm rem mag. For elk. Now narrow down a rifle manufacture. I liked the precision of a Sako
But a little pricy may settle for a Tika T3.

PS: the spacing between tapped holes on the mosberg was perfect, and used the weaver mounts and I had plenty of adjustment for eye focal setting.
The savage was a pita. Spacing of tapped holes was to far apart. So I mounted a Piccadilly.
I prefer the weaver mounts, it felt more solid.
But not to be.
