Ever since taking up bow hunting, I've wanted to get a little more primitive. Compound bows are cool but there is something else about a wood bow that I think truly tests the abilities of a hunter. I don't know how serious I am yet about limiting myself to just a traditional bow but it will be fun to give it a shot.

This bow came as a blank from 7 Lakes Longbows (7lakeslongbows.com). It is a 60" recurve (Mike's specialties are longbows but he makes two recurve models as well), #50 @ 28" draw. You can purchase it finished or in "blank" form. Basically it is laminated, cut and tillered. You have to finish all the sanding and apply a finish on it. Really only takes a few hours of sanding then another day to apply several coats of whatever finish you choose. I used Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane in a clear satin finish (Mikes recommendation). There are many other methods...

Anyway, I still need to put a rest and plate on it. I'm also going to put a leather grip and string silencer's as well. Just wanted to show the bow it it's simplest form.

On another note, I've never met Mike at 7 Lakes Longbows but he makes a great product. I definitely recommend him. I also bought a 7 Lakes youth blank from him a while back. It's a lot of fun to do and requires relatively little woodworking experience.
