This will be our 15th spring season for our youth mentored turkey hunt on county lands...The 1st year it was at Heise Park, but since then, it's been at Santa Ysabel East Preserve...It really is a hunt of a lifetime for many of these kids..........
The drawing for the 20 spots (10 Saturday, 10 Sunday) will be March 7th at the VFW hall in Ramona...The doors open at about 8:30 am...The safety, rules orientation, and turkey seminar start at 9:00 am...Registration ends at 10:30 am...Drawing starts at around 11:00 am...Each child drawn will get a mentor and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian...They MUST have their valid hunting license with them...Also, because of insurance purposes, each adult and youth hunter MUST be a member of National Wild Turkey Federation.
Donuts will be provided in the morning and lunch will be free for the kids...VFW does have lunch accommodations.
If your child doesn't have the right gear...We can help you out...Always a great chance of rain, snow, or cold weather...Good muck/rubber boots are a must have.
I will try to assign each youth to the best spot for his or her abilities and stature...Some of the walks are long and hilly...Some are short and quite easy...We will hunt rain or shine and there will be no carryover like in years past.
Looking forward to seeing you on March 7th..........Gobble, Gobble!
