Pcsing to washington state next month, only had about 4 days to hunt. Had to make it happen this past weekend.

Only had Friday around noon to scout before the opener. Was able find some sign pretty quick and hammer out a game plan. Third year hunting the base.

The full moon definitely sucked, didn't see anything all morning in the spot I snuck into, enough deer poop to fill up a 10 lb sack.

Swapped my spot to one I knew about in the past has a very small water source. Very overgrown, around 530pm I saw a spike jump into the bush in front of me and bed down, darn. There was one that walked in the bushes to the left of me that had my wind and busted out(I think) couldn't see more than a flash of brown.

After about a half an hour a really nice old doe started to check out my blind from the right, took her about 20 min to slowly walk in front of me, kept staring in. I was wearing all black.

Doe finally fed for a second at about 15 yds quartering away, drew my bow, she looked back. It was game over at that point. Sent it.

Rage hypodermic +p made a full pass through. Double lung. She made a quick lap around the clearing I was watching, about 50 yds, skirted a poison oak patch and piled up in some fennel.

Unfortunately I didn't get any body pics but she dressed out at 102. The freezer on base was busted so I had to debone and transport the following morning.

That night I made batter fried heart and the tenderloins n some sprouts. Very good.

Gonna be venison breakfast lunch and dinner till I move.

awesome congrats on filling the freezer. Good eats for sure.

Thanks everyone, stole a recipe from Malcolm Reeds howtobbqright YouTube channel for dinner tonight. Definitely recommend trying if you seal the deal this season.

Bacon wrapped back strap, done on the traeger, glazed with a Korean bbq style sauce I made.

Words can't describe. 6aecf7978824715c18d31ca0e60e604a.jpg

Was my first time doing all the processing myself, tried my best to get all the meat I could, lots of work done and the havalon definitly made it easy. At home went to work with that Kershaw filet knife to get all the fat and silver skin off as much as possible.

Today I made a batch of jerky, sweet java recipe I found. Used a cup of back rifle coffee company coffee in the marinade. Smoked with pecan.

I agree, Treagers are a game changer, for those in the military or know a guy. AAFES sells em on their website, no tax or shipping. 67492c1b498f1cdda278aa26f07308e6.jpg
