Curious if anyone has hunted the valley or the sea for Racoons. Regs say they can be hunted at night which I assume is the best time. I have never shot a racoon and would like to get one. Don't want spots just want to know if it would be a waste of a night. They are all over down at the river but you can't night hunt them. I have to assume I could find some by the canals in the valley. Also would I have to use non lead shot since I would be near water.

Tons of 'coons in the IV.......Non-lead ammo is not required at this time.

I all ways wonder about that since I hunt quail near water a lot as well. So basically only need steel for water fowl even if I am near water? I know there are a few areas by the river that are steel shot only just wasn't sure how it applied to other areas.

You cannot hunt waterfowl basically anywhere without using non-toxic (Mexico excluded)......If your hunting a national wildlife refuge. Then non-toxic is required for any upland and waterfowl.

There is nothing written about water holes, guzzlers, lakes, ponds, etc.

We've called them in before but they're always in our lap. We could've shot a few but it would've been two or 3 feet away with a dead coyote didn't want to blow it up

Ya $5 a round makes u think a lot more about your shots.

Did they just come in to distress calls or were u actually using coon sounds?

Only time I've ever seen them was at night, besides some in Canada one time.. If you are targeting them with the right sounds shouldn't be hard at all. Kinda like foxes, if they are there they are coming lol
