Rattling for bucks?

Just curious if any of you rattle for bucks around here come rut time? We did it with decent success up in WA for Blacktails.

I've heard of people doing it here and having success every now and then but I'd think that it would be better to just not call or rattle for deer because you don't see deer fighting all that often with the low deer population in socal so it might spook deer

I have heard of people calling them in rattling but not often. I gave it a try this past season and all I ended up doing is spooking bucks with the rattling. Since I got a deer on opening day I used the rest of the season to experiment. These mule deer are dead silent. I think it is one of those; right place, right time, and right buck.

Opening archery weekend I had a spork and a 3x3 fighting. It brought me and a few does in heard more tree limbs breaking than antlers hitting each other.

I've been told rattle very little and do it softly down here.......during the peak of the rut I bet it works

Has not worked as well for me here as doe bleat or estrus bleat. Rattling works well on White tail if you are near a rub or scratch; they'll come in to protect their turf. Maybe it would work here if you set up similarly. I don't think they'll come to random rattling.
NBK rattled one in a couple years back.

I've rattled in small bucks, but it's on property with a high density of deer and they act more like white-tail than Pacific Hybrids......Doing it on public land would be like using a gobbler call on public IMO......A few pix of bucks fighting in SD.

It absolutely works. We would not have shot this big buck D16 buck without the rattle. This big fellow came in like a freight train and boy was he mad! Rusty calmed him down with a barnes injection though.

This was 2012 if my memory serves.

John, did you happen to see whether there was a rub nearby? Just testing the thought that maybe he was defending his turf.

Scored the primos one handed leg mounted rattler on eBay 7.99 shipped. First rattle sequence brought a 3/4 in not more that 2mins following. Public land d16. Wasn't nocked on the string. Next day a bigger buck showed after the second rattle. Couldn't get a good shot on him. I'll be using it again

Absolutely he came in to defend. He was ready to brawl...and Rusty accommodated him.
