Rifle, Shotgun.....or BOTH!

Here's an update. The rifle is 90% done. The stock has a camo job, the 3-9 variable is mounted and the bipod is on. One job left...a new trigger. I went by Duncan's on the way to the range this morning and borrowed their trigger gauge. I knew the pull was heavy, but 7.11 pounds??????????????? And there's no way to adjust it. Oh well!

I haven't shot it for grouping since swapping the scopes. With the 4X on top, I was getting around a 2" group. Now that the barrel is floating, the new 9x scope is mounted and I'm getting somewhat used to the trigger, I would expect something around 1" groups. I have family coming in from Texas for a high school graduation so I won't be able to go to the range until at least the 20th. I'll let you know after it's dialed in.

The wife and her daughter went to an Indian casino yesterday. She copped $50 from my wallet before she left. When they got back she didn't say anything but I finally got it out of her that she had won $250. My new Timney trigger is now on order at Duncan's! BTW, it shot an 1 1/4" group yesterday...with the 7# trigger!

You're lucky - My wife would keep the 200 she won and the 50 from my wallet

The trigger arrived and I installed it today. Boy is it SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #3 pull, clean and crisp with NO overtravel. The trigger went on with one roll pin and one set screw. I just set it in place, tapped the pin through a post and tightened up the set screw. That was it...except for having to shave a small piece off the top of the stock railing so the safety would operate properly. I'm headin' for the range soon.

Well done Jerry. Let us know how it shoots.

I am heading to the range in a few minutes to continue working on my .260. Just finished adjusting the trigger too. It is really smoooooth!

Hope to have some good targets to show. ;D

The new trigger is really sweet! The first group I shot measured 7/8" and was 1 1/2" right and 1" high. 6 clicks left and the second group was dead center and 1" high...just where I want it. 6 rounds and I was done. That leaves 14 rounds in the box for this Saturday.

Hey John, here's the latest update with the Omega. I have been working hard to try to find the "best" combination for the rifle. After trying the normal black powder substitutes, Pyrodex, 777 and Pyrodex Select, I FINALLY tried Blackhorn 209. What a difference! Hotter loads with less powder and NO SWABBING BETWEEN SHOTS! Just load and shoot. I tried the 250-grain Hornady HP/XTP's and got groups just over an inch. Same with the Barnes Expander MZ's and T-EZ's. The last bullet I tried was the Barnes 250-grain Spit-fire MZ
BT (boat tail). I started off at 90 grains of the BH 209 and got three shots touching at 100 yards. That's a just over 1800 f/s load. The pattern opened up slightly at 100 grains of powder. I FINALLY got my deer load!

That is an amazing group WS! The game doesn't stand a chance with that rig...

Now all I need is for a nice 180-inch 4 x 4 to come to the water hole I'm going to be staking out. You think there is anything like that in the D-16 area? Yeah, RIGHT!

Maybe not 180" but there are 150" deer in D16. Not a lot but they are out there!

NBK is right! There sure are some giants here in d16. Just being in the right place at the right time and some luck is all you need to get one. I've seen a few but haven't had the chance to score on one yet. Maybe this year. Good luck to you.

Hey John, if you ever want to borrow one of the BP's, you know how to get a hold of me. Wheels has the Omega right now for his son's FHL hunt.

Sounds like you are on your way! And thanks for the offer on the BP! I might just have to take you up on that! ;D
