While all the deer guys are having fun, the noobs are running amok.
I bought a shotgun, but I'm still waiting for it to be released. In the meantime I took my pellet gun out and figured I'd hike around and see what's what; hopefully run into a rabbit or a few quail. Arrived at my spot at first light. Walked around for about an hour or two and didn't *see* anything. I sat down under the shade of an oak and had my first A-HA hunting moment. I could hear birds everywhere and I realized, I really don't know what a quail sounds like. So I whipped out the old omni-device and googled 'quail sound'. Thirty seconds later I was a virtual expert in quail sounds and realized they were all around me! DUH. Do your research first noob!
So the next hour was spent trying to hear and stalk quail in the bushes; with a pellet gun. This endeavor met with very little success. In most cases the quail would flush 30 feet away before I even saw them. I did however manage to flush a few right out from under me. Impossible for me to shoot them with the GAMO. But if I had my shotgun it would have been game over for those guys.
The good news. I found the quail, and how! There were tons of them in there. And I can pick up the scatter gun Monday. Next week it's on!
