Is shooting clays on BLM frowned upon? I am a huge advocate of cleaning up after yourself and the other fellow shooters who don't pick up after themselves and give the good guys a bad name..... with this said obviously wen shooting clays you can't really pick up all the pieces.... how does this go over on BLM? is it just not worth it ?

Hell JD............Shooting in California is frowned upon..... ::).....I've shot a lot on BLM out in the desert.......Where's your BLM that your interested in shooting on?.......There's a lot of places out by the Salton Sea that I would feel comfortable about shooting........ ;)

well I'm about five minutes away from otay mountain...... The thing is that i have never shot clays before.... i haven't gotten into bird hunting but i have met a rather unique girl who in-fact is a fowl hunter to the bone and wants to teach me.... btw she out shot me last week with some handguns.... i just don't want to embarrass myself shooting at the range and i know that sounds superficial but we will see...... So is otay a decent place or will i be hassled ?

There are spots for shooting on the east grade of Otay Mtn. You'll see them as you drive up Otay Truck Trail.

The east side? is otay truck trail off of otay lakes road or do you mean maron valley road?

When you are finished, you must remove all of your targets, gun shells, etc. We recommend that you do not use clay pigeons as targets, as you can be cited for littering if you leave any debris. Even the so-called “biodegradable” clay targets remain indefinitely in the dry, fragile landscape of the desert, and their presence constitutes a visual impact on the landscape that can infringe on the enjoyment of the outdoors for other recreationalists. If you choose to use clay pigeons, be prepared to clean up all fragments large enough to see with normal vision, as well as other litter into which the clay fragments may fall. (See Rules and Regulations Section, below, for more information.)

This is from the blm
website

ya i figured thats how it works..... thanks for the info and replies.... looks like well be shooting at the range tomorrow then

South Bay Rod & Gun Club is a great private facility off Marron Valley Road at the foot of OTT as it starts up the east slope of Otay Mtn. Yearly membership is only $75 and daily rates are reasonable too. Why not go there?

clay target pieces, i showed him on the box they were biodegradeable he didnt care that was the last time
i took clays out to shoot its too much work i ll just go the range

I know the area you want to shoot clays well. The BLM ranger is Joseph Funk. He is really hunter friendly but if he sees you shooting clays he will give you a rake and have you clean them up. He runs a tight ship and likes to keep the place looking clean.

x2. He's a good man.

Well since last sunday I have shot clays twice.... I cannot get enough!!! I think its easier to just go over to P2k its about five minutes from me anyway. I have run into ranger funk a couple of times and he is super hunter friendly he knows the hunters respect the privilege we get to hunt. He told me a few months ago that he is retiring so hopefully the new guy keeps the pressure on the ones who make shooters look bad!!
