If I have it correct, I do not need to have my long guns in locking case when going from home to the field. I found this in under Ca. penal code 25400. If this is contrary to any updated info. please post that info. In the past I always errored on the safe side and have locked them in case. If I don't have to do that, I won't. Thanks GDL

There may be some local laws that require it...city of san diego requires it to be locked in a case or disabled by a trigger lock if not in your "immediate" control.

Had a run in with warden last year near McCain valley while I was driving out . He waived me over and asked to check my truck. He asked to see my rifle that was in it's case, I said its locked in the case... He said very good then I don't need to see it, have a great day. Down here in the IV I just carry the gauge in a soft case on truck bed while hunting, no problems yet.

Yes yes jakesch hit it on the nail.
City laws will over ride state laws if they are more strict..v we have to be very careful. I think this were we could get in trouble if transport thru the city.
On another post this was ironed out for state rules.
Long guns (Hunting rifles and shotguns) locked case not required.
Side arms yes
Assault rifles yes(state definition.)
So go figure city laws.
I know in LA huntes have been busted. And it sucks

Cal guns..you will recieve more than the brain can fathom on this topic...keep doing what you been doing GD...you good.

Always in locked case with ammo separate. Remember... their motivation for those laws was the a-holes doing drive-bys. You want to take away all possibility for those a-holes to be able to pin something on you. Their motivation for doing so is money, recognition, and brownie-points within their ranks.

Thanks guy, I think I'll stay with, if it ain't, broke don't fix it. Long guns will be staying in hard locking case for transporting. This is Cal. after all.

You shouldn't answer anything firearm related or consent to a search in this state anyways. What was legal yesterday could be illegal today.
