When is it appropriate to use a Tree Stand foud in public land in CA?

I spoke to a few guys about this subject, some say is usually fine and if the owner shows up you move along. Others say, my property and stay off.

I read something about "unattended blind or stands in public land are available" Is this accurate?

Some of the stands I found are in good shape some other IMO should be removed as they look like garbage.

What say you?

I’ve got a stand on public land and I put a note on it saying, “Be Safe”
I personally don’t care if people hunt from it, but I expect they won’t trash it (or the area around it)

Public land, go ahead and sit in it. But don’t forget it does it belong to somebody else ,be respectful. the ones that look like garbage might have a big buck hanging around it because nobody sits in it . look for deer sign around those.

I dunno, I feel like it's a weird thing to sit in someone else's stand. I've hunted out of other guys' duck blinds on the sea, but only after checking with other guys that it's 'open'. If the guy shows up, then it'd be kinda weird. Why not set up your own stand instead.

Those ones that look totally abandon probably belong to Sluester. I know he had seven or eight of them up there and nothing would make him happier then for you to climb in one and whack a doe out of it.

That is a fact.....even when he was here his stands were shared.

It's not like we own the tree when we hang a stand. Be respectful, use it. and leave it in good shape. If there are apples and corn on the ground in front of the stand, you might not want to sit in that one. And, if you show up to your stand at 0dark:30 and somebody is already in your stand, be nice. Help them find another place to set up. We need to stick together.

The problem is relative to what was said above. There are stands that have been out there for year after year. I wouldnt hesitate to sit in one. Just double check the straps and whatnot for safety. Now, there are stands you can tell are very new due to the condition of them. Those I would not sit in unless Ive ran into the owner and got permission.

I too just don’t feel comfortable using someone else’s stand. I’ve also come across several floating duck blinds in the bay and delta. Again using them is just beyond my comfort level.

Can I come sit in yours

some of the old stands might be unsafe, weather and mother nature , straps are weak careful , and if you do climb a tree stand, a fall arrest strap is a must!
