I have a FoodSaver where it senses the bag insertion and starts automatically, but it took a dump while packing this round of doves and it's driving me nuts. It won't sense the bag and won't start up.. no seal no nothing. Anyone ever have this issue and resolve it?

Friend had same problem. He said it had to do with one of two things. the bag is not being sensed because of the way it goes into sensing location or the bags cure as it come off the roll causes it to not align with the sensing location. He said he just started using pulse button to get it to work. If that makes any sense. Also the inside needs to be clean of any debris.

Sweet thanks. I'll give that a try.

I got a second one because mine would get to warm and I would get flashing light on start. Then I would just go to backup. When u have a lot of stuff to vac. it's worth it.

About 15 years ago, my wife and I had a dryer or washer go out on us. It was a basic model that we had when we first got married, and it just get going for years. We called a repair guy out. This old guy showed up, probably in his 70's, with one of those old wood tool boxes, the open kind with handle. He fixed it fairly quickly (and it stayed running until we sold that house and let buyers keep it). He told us with appliances, large and small, get the cheapest and most basic ones. They seem to last longer, cheaper and easier to fix, and still "wash your clothes"....

I know there are some really nice high end vacuum sealers, commercial grade, etc. A friend has one and it was uber expensive and works great. I picked up basic food saver off amazon. Maybe $70? I order bags off amazon too. It's been about five years. Super easy to use, still works great and it was cheap enough that if it dies, it's not hard to replace. BTW, yes I'm..."frugal"

Just so you know. Walmart carries the bags incase you run low and need some ASAP.

Yeah, if I'm in a pinch, I'll get them from WM or Target, but prefer WM since Target does not support 2A. I typically order them off Amazon before I actually need them. Plus, cheaper this way

Mine is getting old and I have to manually start it and manually hit seal, otherwise it just keeps sucking like Yacht Rock and Disco. The sensing mechanisms just get old and wear out I guess. Also, I’ve noticed mine likes certain brands of bag stock better than others.

Yea I got a more basic model this time with no auto sensing crap that can go bad. Just a manual handle thing you flip then seal. Speaking of yacht rock did you see that billboard in the IV on the 8 near 4th Ave for a group Yachtley Crew? Sounds like your worst nightmare

I did not see the billboard but I did see an add for a Yachtly Crew show coming to Moda Center as I was leaving the Guns n Roses show a few weeks ago.

Good point on the bags. I noticed that the actual "food saver" bags would occasionally open after frozen. I eventually started doing a triple seal. PITA. I started using the amazon vacuum sealer bags with at least a double seal (just in case), and so far, none have opened. Been about three months with several bags of fish and meat in the freezer...fingers crossed.
