Wister Opener 2014

I was fortunate enough to be invited on a reservation for Wister by a good friend Robert & his brother Rick. Also included was my daughters boyfriend Jacob. This would be his 2nd season opener. We took a spot that I had scouted the previous weeks and it didn't disappoint......We only really had one kind of duck work us all morning.......Mallards!......And the best part about mallards is they repond to calling better than any other duck.......Jacob got his 1st mallard and it was a beautiful big greenhead......We ended the morning one bird short of limits, but were very happy with 24 mallards & 3 greenwings (some of the boys need to practice a little in the off season......lol).

Wister overall was lights out......5.2 average with 333 mallards taken (GW's # 1 at 656).

I grind most the SoCal ducks (burger for chili, spaghetti, etc.).......These will become jerky.

Got the counts for Wister's opener.....2060 ducks checked in Saturday!

The crew out there has done a tremendous job......And having summer water was a boom to the mallard population.

With another dry winter now predicted, Wister should have a great future with good water available the rest of the way.
