CDFW Should just turn to the hunting community!

I think the answer is yes! They should have an air rifle Derby with prizes for most, etc. that would get rid of them!

Unless they allow trapping we will never be able to stop nutria. Shooting them is not the answer trapping is and that will never happen. Look into how much damage they did and do in the Chesapeake Bay Area. They were brought to the states for their fur and then when the fur trade died all the nutria farms just let them go.
 
The only way to stop them would be to eradicate them now when their population is low. Grew up hunting those suckers in Louisiana and they repopulate faster than rabbits since they don't have many predators. The picture in that article is of a small one. A full grown 30lb+ version will take your dog on and win. They have teeth like beavers. We would ride around in airboats and shoot them all day long to collect the bounty ($5 a tail) and you wouldn't put a dent in the population. Only thing that did was Hurricane Katrina -- and their population rebounded quickly.
