AZ 2019 Archery Only OTC Deer Camp (and possibly Javelina)

Watched a Newberg video and got me thinking.
Kicking around an idea, seeing if any interest in the SCH community.
Rent a ranch house; Airbnb etc...
Get a group together to split the costs
hunt for 3 - 4 days ish.
Use the house as a base camp.

Thinking maybe Sonoita area just south of Tuscon (82) on the map.
Good access to GMU's 34a/b, 35a/b, and even 38M and 33 right out side of Tucson.
But open to other areas.

Early thoughts right now, but any interest out there?

Biggest issue I would think would be getting the dates lined up for all.

Then some questions:

1. Are you trying to hunt as a single unit or just using it as base camp and everyone do their own thing?
a, Would seem to me to make more sense to try and attack same unit maybe with slighty different/overlapping areas to try and locate the deer.

2. If 1 unit as above, are you trophy hunting or just looking for any legal deer? (It may matter to some and not others..)

3. Flying? Driving or a combo? And who's rigs are you using?

4. Different hunting styles and opinions on how to go about it


Just some food for thought. I have arranged a few fishing and hunting trips through my life and it gets harder the more people you add to the mix.

It is hard enough to get 3 people together and worse for more imho.

I will be in AZ for OTC archery and Javaelina. I am way to selective to go hunting with a group like this though. I warn you now pick your partners carefully and keep your hunts to around 4 people max. Make sure you clearly lay out your expectations before the hunt. Establish who is going first etc. also make sure you hunt with people who are willing to stop what they are doing to track wounded game and pack meat.

Not all hunters are created equal and not all have the same expectations as you. Get out there and stick one but I would recommend keeping it to 4 people 2 groups of 2 would be ideal in my opinion.

Outside of the dates needing to be committed to, would keep the rest as simple and flexible as possible.
If someone wants to go solo, so be it. Pair up, even better. etc..
Work a specific GMU, cool. Muleys in the flats for a couple days, Coues higher up for a couple. Whatever.
No plan to micro-manage someone else's hunt.
I would drive and could take others, but again, someone else wants to drive or fly, so be it.
Other then the dates, and agreeing to split costs for house and gas if sharing a vehicle, the rest would hold '0' expectations, that way no-one gets butt hurt.
Now if individuals want to put a game plan together, then they agree on that plan and hold each other accountable.

At the end of the day it would be a base camp to start/end the days hunt, talk story, break bread and have beers.

#7 is good but when hunting the West this is what you need. This will take the celebration to another level.

I’m thinking Hatchet and I could ride around in the back seets. (We’ll need a driver) of a truck and just point fingers for you guys.

I am game.
I don't know anything about out of State hunts ( how to obtain license, where to go, etc.) but I can cook and carry weight . LOL
Let’s talk.

Looks like 2019-2020 AZ OTC Archery Drunk Fest is off to a good start...
I feel hungover already.

You can buy your combo non-resident license online. then the Over The Counter archery only deer tag at any sporting store, and the javelina tag. Last year the Javelina tags were gone by the time I planned my hunt in Jan.
Sportsman's warehouse come's to mind.
