Haha that would be cool to talk about the experience afterward and the trials of trying to get a 82 year old man to achieve his life long dream!

I support anyone that age chasing a dream no matter what it is but especially a hunting dream..!! This opportunity would make a GOLDEN tv episode or a podcast at the very least to any true hunter. I know I for one would be totally into watching/listening about all the planning and logistics and obstacles to overcome or did overcome that goes into this hunt. He is successful in my book by just going out there and trying to get it done. My hats is off to him and to you for helping out.

Leaving here in about an hour to head to Sacramento for tomorrow’s orientation for the hunt.

I’m going to try and video tape the hunt and put it on YouTube . Just got a new dslr camera with 4K so we will see what I can do with that.

I would be interested in knowing what ones you found for sure. Do you have a tag for this unit ?
No I just looked at the satellite images cause I was curious what the terrain looked like and found them. There is a spring I can tell they use too because there is only 50 or so trails leading to it.

Cattle use to be ran in this unit then the rancher past and then a new lease was obtained by a different cattle rancher and so now there are cattle back on it so you could be seeing some of that. The California department of fish and game as well as some other individuals I have spoke to mentioned after the cattle got off of the sheep unit the sheep population really took off. So we will have it see what the sheep population does now that sheep are back on the unit.

The area is pretty steep and rocky so it is most likely sheep. Even if it were cattle that many trails all converging on a lone green spot in the desert is a promising indicator of water.

Water is not always where you will find sheep (and only during the driest times of the year) (look at how they count sheep in Borrego springs every year), Read the hunt account of the owner of Kifaru hunt clothing and his quest for what is currently the world record. Barrel cactus may work better because that is how in times before civilization they survived. As I mentioned in a previous thread its about feed and a safe vantage point.

Yeah my understanding is that the sheep will hit the guzzlers this time of the year but here in a month or so they won’t any longer be around the guzzlers. They don’t like to go to a water source unless they have to because water is a threat to there life from predators.

A little update we went to the orientation last Sunday and got Pine (hunters nickname) sheep tag.
Got to meet some lucky guys that drew with 4 and 5 points. One of them was the same unit I apply for. Also got to learn a lot about wild sheep and the history of them in the state of California. It was a really great experience and would highly suggest going to if you ever know someone that draws.
