Hello OPAH here, Hunt, fish, Camp Hike but getting long in the Years now.
Had to limit my hunting to Base camp type hunting, so been taking the easier route. really into Hog hunting, Got a nice Private Ranch I have trespass permission to. I just purchased my soon to be Hog gun, moving from My Browning Abolt2 30/06 with the BOSS system to a Browning Mark111 308 BAR with the DBM Black on Black composite, Been really debating a Red Dot Reflex sight for it, any information in that direction would be appreciated.
Well thank you for allowing me access to this site, promise to pack out what I pack in !

If I had a 308 BAR I would put a 3-9x40 minimum on it. With a red dot its much harder to knock over a hog at long range. I envy all the semi auto hunters in D14 who empty 3 magazines at one deer!

I am still a one shot one kill Hunter, I am looking at 3 shots 3 pigs down now. I figured the Browning BAR is the semi auto of choice and the 308 will get the Job done.

I like the Reflex Red Dot because I like the Idea of Both eyes open and quick Target acquirement. If I where going to put a scope on I would put a Hog scope 56 mm, red dot with lumenated retile that is on my Browning Boss 30/06. Great single shot scope.

I love to Base Camp, Got a small pop up Coleman trailer, Great for just me but will support two. My Toyota and/or S10zr2 can pull this thing anywhere they can go.

Stopped Hunting D14 5 or so years a go, got too nuts. First to senior crowd down in Clarks Ranch going senile and up in Big Bear every moron that could find a Rifle was tromping thru the woods.
Sad it was a really good area with some outstanding Muley.

Yes Max would be 100 yards to as close as 15 yards, Groups of 15 to 30 pigs or single dominate Hogs, my first hog was 350 really nice tusker, My best was a 125/50 2 inches of fat super healthy sow.

The D14 opener is definitely nuts!

It has turned out to be a really nice place to hunt October thru March.
with my Browning Boss I could pull out 3 pigs a year, with the BAR I plan to extend that out to 6 plus.

It is, you can hunt hard or easy, I hunt easy most the other guys like getting up in the Hills. Hunt early morning and Evenings till dark legal light, afternoons we work around the ranch or shoot ground squirrels, there are some quads and a side by side 4x4, to pick up the pigs. not bad for a small ranch.
