7 PRC

Nice Bipod!!
I am running 175 Berger’s in my Tikka with all kinds of room in the mag. Red Snake Bottom Metal. I think I am gonna make the jump over to the 140 or 155 hammers still kicking it around.
Jake you have a really cool wife!

Fortunate for sure!!! God gave me a good one.

I still like running those 140 AH over 3300 fps. I am tempted to clear out my gun safe after hunting season and start fresh next year. I get bored with my guns to easily.

Though that 338 RUM will never leave my hands. But have been thinking about a 6 lb scoped 260 rem, something for deer 400y and in.

Is that 7 PRC really what people are making it out to be ??

I have learned in my long years to listen to people that say something to the effect of- "I've been there and done that and let me tell you what I know". The best things I have learned in my life have come from listening to those that have experience and most times are older than me. Mark Twain once said " Youth is wasted on the young" and I have come to understand more and more as time goes by...

Not sure what exactly you are trying to say bud? All I know is a large pill come out of the 7 PRC and guys that know way more then me (not saying much) are liking what the data is showing.

@Stikbrandon 7prc, 7 saum, 280AI all the same thing and great western hunting cartridges. 7mm is a great caliber and these cartridges all push them an adequate enough velocity to be effective way past what most people are capable of shooting them.

Set up on that bull at 528 this week in a super stable prone rest I had full confidence I would make the shot and the bull would die.

Just agreeing with the other folks who have said they like the .28 caliber driven at speeds with the bullets mentioned and putting forth what I have learned over the years. You are correct the large pill .280 is a great thing and something to consider if you hunt the west. P.s. my go to for many years has been a 7 Rem Mag. I do own a .260 Rem and a 25.06 for smaller stuff. Personally I prefer the 25-06 but that may have to do with the fact I've been shooting that gun since 1975. They all work just gotta put it in the right place and then they fall down for sure.. It's all good buddy...

Splitting hairs but the 7 PRC more similar to a 7 rem mag. Should give you an extra 100 fps over 280ai or 7 saum.

The 7 PRC is to the 7 rem mag what the 300 PRC is to the 300 Win Mag.

Huh interesting
I shoot them out of a factory Seekins. .455 @ 3026. Torn between going custom 28N. Ryan Pierce makes some good ones said to be .2-.3s around 3200 fps. Or go 30 Nosler. Life is full of good choices.

It is true, nothing new in terms of performances just all repackaged. The biggest change is how accurate "factory" ammo should be.

What I like about the 7 PRC is pushing that 180 gr ELD-M at 3000 fps. Really it is not needed for hunting other than dramatically reducing wind drift with that ~.8 g1 BC. You could get that with a custom 7 Rem Mag or a light load in a 28 Nosler (30% more powder).

A whole lot of hair splitting going on here. Will not deny faster is better and more accurate is better and projectiles are better. But.... Is any of it superior ? Not by much and not by anything you will see in the field. I have not shot anything but reloaded ammo since 1974 so I don't have a good measure on factory ammo here other than it is better now than it was then. I really enjoy exploring new cartridge's and ballistics but have not seen much in the last thirty years that gets my attention unless you look at building light weight rifles that can do the same with less weight and with more powder efficient cartridges my hat is off to that otherwise. Guess I'm just old school. I will probably next time I go out grab my long action Winchester m-70 7mag- or Rem 25-06 long action and do the job with what I already own until I build my dream 257 Weatherby custom and leave everything else at home. Old guy talkin...

Its fits a niche that a lot of shooters were looking for. The 7rem mag is a little under gassed to push 180g bullets to appropriate speeds. The 7 PRC should be a great option for 7mm with heavier bullets. It’s certainly not reinventing the wheel however.

I
Probably will own one in the next couple years should go well with my 6.5 prc and love for the 7mm round

There certainly is a lot of hair-splitting. These developments are probably best for the new hunter who may not know reloading/tuning or just wants an off-the-shelf shooter. The need to shoot lots of different ammo or even hand load with these types of rounds is greatly diminished.

I'd bet you buy a tikka, browning, or whatever, and some factory premium ammo and you'll have a 1" gun that does well at extended ranges, generally speaking. This is a great thing for an ethically killing game. Whereas 30 years ago the same off the shelf combo may have landed them a 2-3" gun.

100% correct

What about the 30/06? Any good? Ed F
Amazing!!! Still one of the best.

@Snake Charmer and I have a friend (Renny) who has killed 75 elk with a 30-06. On top of that, he has killed a pile of deer, sheep, bison and moose with the 30-06.

This guys barn looks like a Cabelas store regarding mounts etc.

Maybe we should all have an intervention to let him know he might being doing this all wrong and should change cartridges.
