So I've recently run into a hunting opportunity on a private piece of land in Montana for deer/elk and I have never hunted outside of California for large game. Was just curious as to how to go about obtaining a tag for elk as a non-resident in Montana. Do I have to go through the draw system even if it is private property in a hunt district? Literally had this drop in my wheelhouse 24 hours ago.

Draw deadline was April 1, you will need to buy a left over combo tag elk/deer for 1k bucks.
I think that's how it still works, been a few since I hunted up there

How much land did you get access to? I used to have a epic elk spot up there. I miss it very very much

It's around 650 acres or so and butts up to BLM.

I too miss Montana big game...I used to buy the combo tag OTC for a 1000 bucks...Any elk, any deer, upland, and fishing...Then the draw got tough and I quit putting in...Now it's north of 1300 and not easy to get..........

650 with access to public is nice chunk...Do the elk winter there?....What part of the state or region?

Thanks for the intel. This opportunity presented itself just last Saturday so I had no chance to put in by April 1 deadline.
