Yes, I went up the canyon too, but after about 15 minutes in I hadn't see a single dove so turned around back to the field. By that time I was exhausted. I should have worked the field more as well.

Jason, I was at the hunt also. Yes, this unit of San Felipe (Oak Grove Unit) is for special hunts only. I know this because I asked the DFW agent who was running the hunt. Better luck next time. I'm going to post a new thread on for my hunt. :)

I ended up getting a Mossberg 500 all-purpose field 12 GA. Thank you all for the advice. I just got it today (that 10-day waiting period seems so much longer than 10 days when you're waiting ..... Ha!).

Thanks Mud Pigeon. I'm looking for a pump because I haven't seen a semi that I can afford at this point. Maybe Mossberg is the way to go. The I've been eyeing it for some time now. I'll check the 870 as well (I assume you mean Remington?).
