I took one of my best friends hunting in Paso Robles Ca through Bitterwater Outfitters. His last couple years have been hell on earth. At age 38, he had already been through chemo and a stem cell transplant (all is well now), so my wife and I bought him the hunt package as a gift.
In 2 days, we went 3 for 3. Bitterwater Outfitters rocks! Our guides were awesome, and they knew the ranch in and out. The amount of birds and encounters is absolutely nuts. If something got messed up, we just moved onto the next flock. Being catered on a side-by side, hunting an 8000 acre ranch couldn’t get any better. The hunt is whatever you make it. If you want to spot and stalk, call birds in, or jump shoot em, the guides are up for whatever you want (they were hilarious guys).
We made new friends, and we had an exciting turkey hunt. We spotted 2 bears while hiking, and also bumped a group of hogs @ 40 yards.
They let me shoot a 20 ga with TSS #9. All our birds were shot between 58 and 66 yards. WHAT A LOAD! I’m a TSS believer now.
