catalina hunting...island residence only now

if you are keeping up with the drama on catalina they want to kill of the deer because they are non native. This year they decided to cut tags plus make the deer tags only available to residents of the island. Doesn't seem inline with thinning/getting rid of the herd. I hunted it last year DIY. Was a logistic nightmare but fun forusre!

seems very true here. Here is what I witnessed last year.

-the fenced off areas that the conservancy use as a control to show what the area would look like if deer weren't present looked the exact same as non fenced off areas
-back packers are every where. we only saw 2 other hunters.
-trucks shuttle people all around the conservancy on the massive road system (some area paved some not)
-there is an airport right in the middle of the eco system "deer are destroying"
-there are 2 cities (one much bigger than the other) in the middle of the eco system "deer are destroying"
-bison crap and trails are everywhere
-the blind island foxes are everywhere

its an absolutely beautiful place, but it is not this virgin untouched eco system that the conservation makes it out to be. Why? Human encroachment!

As a person that has spent a lot of time on that island and taken a few deer I read the article from the conservancy and what a load of BS that was the treehuggers did some wining and and their dollar is strong over there so shut it down, not a bit of logic went into this decision. This is what to expect from the spoon feds that run the conservancy
 
Research indicates the first people to inhabitat what is now the US came from Asia across the Bering Straight. If true, even the Indians aren’t native Americans. God the level of self-hate the enviro extremists must feel, knowing deep inside they should be exterminated like Catalina deer.

Just like Santa cruz Eddie...those were the days...not surprising though...it is Ca after all..

This hunt stimulated the local economy as we bought food locally, lodging and paid for transportation by a locally owned company. Also we paid for a membership to the conservancy (required to hunt), which helps protect the interior. On top of that my friend and i had a great time, saw some beautiful sites, a lot of cool animals (i glassed up dolphins lol) and were able to bring back the healthiest meat on the planet.

Seems like a win for all involved, which is true for 99% of hunting ( i put 99% as I am sure there is an example where this isnt true but can't think of one).

Hope the hippies are happy with their emotional decision backed by logic....

They've always tried to get rid of the deer... believe it or not Ca F&G saved them. They planted them there in the 50's and fought to save them because they belonged to the people of the state of California. The Nature Conservancy tried this since the 90's.... got rid of the goats, then the pigs... knowing they'll get the deer. RIP Catalina Island deer. Ed F

Interesting.

I'm sure they'll keep the buffalo around because they are "cute" or something.

100%... they want those things gone too but there's another counter group to that. Apparently they have bigger balls than Ca F&G. Ed F
 
Only thing to do now is start the #removeavalon campaign

we must restore the island to its original state.

dont forget about # remove two harbors and the air port! Bring it back to pristine! Then we need to make the entire island a reserve and take ownership from the conservancy! Lets get this island back to how it was 500 years ago like they want right?!

Funny but true. Human habitation has done more to fup the island up then the deer.
