I’m considering a new daypack that can work double duty for hunting and hiking. A lot of hunting packs I’ve seen seem excessively heavy so I’d like to see what others are using.

Like most, I’ve accumulated too many pistol holsters and backpacks over the years. That said, my most used day pack that I use for hunting, scouting, and hiking is a KUIU Divide 1200. It’s a pretty small pack but does have a bottom zipper that can take my shooting/spotting tripod. Very comfortable and weighs less than 2lbs.

My favorite large(ish) day pack is a Venture Divide 3000. Handles a tripod, rifle, and gear very well but not too big. About 4.6lbs.

My Dad has that pack, we packed a lot of animals out with it. Elk, deer, you name it.

We both now have Kuiu packs with frames and meat shelves. Both pack types work (especially if you hunt near roads), but I would never go back. I've had too many critters pull me way further in than I was expecting, a frame pack will really helped get them out. I use the lt4000 for quick day hunts/hikes to several night pack in hunts. I also really like the rifle and bow attachments you can integrate with the Kuiu packs.
