Yes, I knew it would be slow, but I couldn't make the drive to Imperial Valley. Last year, the opener was pretty bad for me at SJ, but I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. Drove to the dog training area on Saturday, and I set up by the parking lot next to a small patch of wheat. I set up two Mojo doves and waited and waited. From 6:30 to about 10:00, I waited and repositioned twice. Failed two shoot at two birds at about an hour apart of each other. When the sun started getting warm I decided to go for a walk next to the tree line by the San Jacinto river to bump birds. Scared two that we're two quick for me to swing on and shot at one that was lucky I'm a bad shot. I called it a day around 12pm and went for a short drive by Mystic Lake. Not a single hunter back there at that time, just a lone coyote. Anyways, moral of the story is San Jacinto is super slow, but it beats staying home. Enjoy the pics.

Way to give it a go.........

Back in the day, dove hunting was great in the IE...San J grows a ton of dove food and has water...Yet, they just don't seem to go there much.......

Tried it a few times and never did well either. Nice effort and thanks for the report. Seems to be a slow dove year overall. We saw very few in the IV this opener. Usually it’s limits by 9:00 am for everyone.

Saw reports and videos from Calipatria and they did well. The weather pushed some birds, but they made visits throughout the day.

I was in Tucson all weekend and found local birds but nothing spectacular. They’ve had a great monsoon season so birds have plenty of places to go. Quail season should be good
