D16 and waterfowl open on same day

I’m not an expert by any means, so please verify but I think this means waterfowl opens 10/24 in all of SoCal (and 10/23 in Colorado river zone).

D16 and waterfowl open on same day

I heard that the waterfowl opener got pushed back a week and now it’s the same day as D16 opens. How will that affect things this year? Fewer deer hunters on opening weekend, fewer water fowl hunters on opening weekend, or ? Someone even mentioned a rifle shotgun combo they might bring out that...

    G13!!!!

Best one liner I’ve heard from a fireman when getting a g13 tag signed, “somewhere, someone is missing a dog about now.” But Im jealous because I don’t have a g13 this year. The does will be laughing at me all season I’m sure. Then, next year I’ll get a g13 again and the does will be nowhere to...

    I Need a New Backpack

I have that pack. It is great for carrying my rifle and packing out meat. However, it is almost 7lbs by itself and so I use a lighter weight pack for scouting trips.

Grizz chases down and kills bull elk in the middle of a river

I had to make my avatar from this video. Too awesome! D16 is going to look gruesome compared to the nice way this griz took down the elk.

    Where to buy gamebirds?

This will sound like I’m saying “you can get anything on Craigslist” but for quail it’s true. Lots of quail chicks (mostly button quail) in San Diego area. Then I’d look at IV Craigslist. I’ve seen pheasant on there as well...

FYI: Updated National Forest Closure Through 21 September 2020

This is the first source I could find that says the forest closure now extends through 9/24 https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/7048/56405/

FYI: Updated National Forest Closure Through 21 September 2020

I saw some posts on FB today saying the forest service extended the closure to 9/24 and plans to keep it in place to 10/01. But I haven’t seen any confirmation of this. If it’s true, I’ll be going to BLM next week.

So sorry to hear this, Lee. I hope your kids are close by at this time. I can’t imagine what it must be like. Stay strong!

    Forest closure question

Next weekend (9/20) will be good, cooler weather. If we don’t get the forests opened up after that, then it’s time to demand answers. Until then sit tight for mid 90s and moderate winds (not unexpected temps but also not low enough for Cal Fire to step back on the closures).

    Forests Closed - FYI

@sherpa It took the state 24 hours to issue a closure of the remaining National Forest lands in CA. Now we are 29 hours into a complete closure of all national forests in CA (I’ll stop counting the hours when we get to weeks). https://www.fs.usda.gov/sierra/ Pray for rain! Even then, I think...

    National Forest closures

As of today at 5pm, now 100% of National Forest lands in CA are closed.

    National Forest closures

I know the forest lands are federal and not state, but I can’t help thinking the closure may last until after the election. The way CA is keeping so many other things closed until then.

Went Scouting in D15 Today and Here's What I Found

That canyon is too small. Need to get to bigger land in our desert. The tagging is unfortunate, but just a phase kids go through. Look into bigger land and the deer will be there. Probably the next 200 yards behind there have frequently used deer trails going to that water. I think when many of...

    Fish taco sauce recipe

There is a restaurant nearby that has the best white sauce for fish tacos and fish burritos. My wife asks for double sauce on the side so she can use it for an extra meal. But it doesn’t taste like ranch dressing. I’m guessing the plain yogurt and lemon change the flavor. The restaurant is El...

New rifle and scope. All done..

Great setup! I used a .243 (left it on the E. Coast for tree stand hunting) and now have a 30-06. I think the 6.5 is the perfect round. Supposedly, it’s recoil is closer to 6mm (which makes for an accurate shot) and yet it has solid killing power down range at 300+ yards)
