Good luck in the heat this weekend to all the Bowhunters

Nice efforts. It’s hard to pass on openers of any kind. So cal heat wave during the first week of school. You can set your calendar by it. Most of the country is entering fall mode. I tell my friends and relatives in other states if you’re coming here to go to the beach and want hot...

    Dove reports?

That sucks. At least you have one more story to tell. Ever think about writing a book? I bet you could fill volumes with stories of hunting, fishing, shooting gone wrong. A few years ago my daughter comes in from the front porch at night freaked out about a menacing rat in the ivy. Being...

    First Bird Dog, Maverick VonBirdfindr

It’s hard to like cats, but it’s cat owners who are the main problem. Letting your pet roam the neighborhood freely, pooping in flower beds, killing song birds and lizards, tormenting fenced dogs, and then screeching loudly at night when fighting or getting raped. I just don’t get the...

    IV Dove Report

The pic went straight to my daughter. My grandson is three so I’ve got 12 months to convince her that four is old enough to get out there for dove opener

    IV Dove Report

On opening morning we went to the same spot we’ve gone the last several years, near Calipatria. Dove numbers are usually good enough, and it checks all of the other boxes: not posted, not crowded, it has shade because it backs to a date palm grove, the shade is to the east so we’re looking and...

    PNW Seafood Report

Drove over to Depoe Bay on the Oregon Coast for a half day fishing trip with Dockside Charters targeting shallow water rockfish and Dungeness crab. Limit style fishing is typical here, and today was no exception. Good quality too, all on plastics using my so cal calico bass gear. Crabbing was...

    Plans for September 1st?

Saw quite a few geese flying today in NW Oregon. And leaves turning already on elm trees. In August?? Climate change I guess.

    Plans for September 1st?

Hitting the IV for the weekend with the usual group of miscreants. Seems like each year we hunt less and goof off more on the opener. But some new, younger blood has come on board and these guys don’t stop! I expect we’ll have a great time as always.

    Can antlers be sold.

“Except as otherwise provided in sections ….” Always such a maze of legalize and imprecise caveats. But I’m sure the legal staff of every mom and pop antique store and pawn shop has fully researched and vetted the history of the old antlers for sale in their stores.

    Sept. 1st.....It's go time

Steve, sounds like you were maybe in the north valley around Wister and the DFW fields. I didn’t see that many mournings the other day in the mid valley area. Although a 3 acre tree cluster next to a cut corn field was absolutely loaded with white wings. There were a few ECDs mixed in, but it...

    Almost too hot to hunt

Sounds just like my experience. I used to be able to handle it better, but then I used to snow ski, water ski, and play tackle football too lol. One thing is for sure, driving in the air conditioned car for two hours and then getting out into 112 doesn’t work for me anymore. Looking forward...

    Almost too hot to hunt

In So Cal and had a job in Palm Springs so I brought guns. Finished up by noon and went south to the IV. Started shooting ECDs around 3 pm, but the 112 temp was just too much for me. Even sitting in a chair in the shade didn’t work out, so I wussed out and headed for an air conditioned fast...
