Great going!
Goat is the most eaten meat in the world. I’ve been trying to find a place in San Diego which serves it. Even though it may not be the best meat by itself there are ways of making it incredible.
Any reports of bucks harvested? Was it crowded out there today or quiet for a first day?
Start posting the photos and stories from opening weekend. Those of us who aren’t going to make it out till later in the season are currently living through your stories from the field.
I frequently see guys training their dogs with live pidgeons/Rock Dove (afterwards there are always a few escapees in the trees where I rabbit hunt). I’m guessing pidgeons can be bought locally.
A good title for the thread would be “calling all coots”

Longbowhunter: “Seems like two different pigs”
There is supposedly only one pig left in that area (after the eradication) and it’s a male. Last year’s picture is a male but maybe this year’s picture is a female (doesn’t seem to have the big bump on its rump). Otherwise I thought the changes were...
Seems that this boar has avoided the game camera for a little more than a year. He’s still out there in the San Diego River headwaters area. To me it looks like he has grown longer hair and is definitely becoming more boar than pig. I’m hoping to get a shot on him during deer season but he’s...
You can look at the website for your particular ranger district and it will say whether a (free) dispersed camping permit is required. The reason they usually want a permit requested is so they know where to look for someone if something (e.g. a fire) is approaching.
Last time I submitted for a...
Indoor ranges will typically advertise if they have a 100yard Lane. Usually ~$15/hour. I go to one every year for sighting in my rifle/scope and to get ready for the season.
Might want to double check if you can do archery in your yard. I may be wrong but I think archery is ok in some cities.
I learned a new hunter hand signal yesterday while scouting with @SurfNHuntSD it’s the Lion sign. Seems like we are all going to need use this one more frequently.
Last year’s lion seemed small and possibly young (150 yards away) but this year’s lion (maybe the same one and only 60yards away...
My tripod is definitely for use while sitting and not standing (only 4’ tall). I ordered a bino adapter but it won’t arrige for another week, so until then I’ve got an old spotting scope on the tripod.
I ordered a lightweight tripod. 48” tall (hopefully that’s not too short) and it arrives today. Going to immediately put the binos on it and start glassing.
Super excited for D16 rifle to start three weeks from today!
Ocurtis, Can you tell us more about the UT hunt?
UT is only 7 hours away so I’m digging the opportunity to hear more about the hunting you are doing there.
