San Jacinto - best blind to take non hunting female for first time hunt?

The Blinds are tight at SJ. You really are at the mercy of those around you in many locations. However, there are Blinds at SJ that are better picks that do give you the time to work the ducks. This is way less of an issue at the other refuge where Blinds are spaced out. John

San Jacinto - best blind to take non hunting female for first time hunt?

If you don’t have a dog then you need to shoot ducks feet down. I pretty much only use 3 inch No.2 Kent’s and do fine. I typically run two Labs so I rarely will loose a shot duck. Even with my two Labs, I still want the ducks committed before I shoot them. This will force you to become more...

    First good one

Aaron I still remember you as a Junior Hunter. I am glad to see you are still hunting. John

    Labrador Snow Day

Nikita is getting close to 80 pounds. She is a big girl but she is cut. She has been on pheasants, ducks, doves and Bandtail all in her first year. It is rare that I will hunt without one or both Labs. However, my senior Lab is just freaking amazing. Total jock and ripped. I am lucky to have...

    Labrador Snow Day

Went up to Palomar Mountain and did well on Bandtail. The big girl loves the snow and is great at finding Bandtail that are shot. John

    Mossberg 935

Mine is an older one and will not take 3.5s. I have killed a bunch of ducks with it using just 3 inch No 2s. If the winds are up or I got a shot at geese then I just take my Citori Over and Under and it eats 3.5 inch rounds for breakfast. It weighs just over 8 pounds and I have no issues with...

    Mossberg 935

You will gain pellets with 3.5 but you can do a lot with the proper choke set up. Don't get me wrong. I am with you on the 3.5 option. I like it for turkeys and geese and when I am hunting ducks in seriously crappy conditions. Again, make sure what you buy you can easily breakdown. Because once...

    Mossberg 935

I think having a semi that can handle 3.5 inch rounds is nice to have. Mainly for the big geese. 3.5 inch for ducks is a little much for So Cal. By the time the ducks make it down here they are not as fat and heavy as when they started their migration. 3 inch No 2s or 3s are more then fine. You...

    What the heck?? Hazard 12/15

Can I launch my 19ft W/A Cuddy with a modified hull? That would be classic. John

    Labrador breed Hunt Trials question

My personal belief is waiting for at least one heat or close to it. I have had 3 female Labs and all were fixed at around their first heat. No issues with any of them. And yes, they were and are hunting labs. John

    Bad Dog!

She is spoiled. I texted a pic of her to my wife. Pretty much told me to clean her up before I got home. Portable wash unit took most of the mud off. Seriously, both my labs are awesome and I am thankful to have them. John

    Bad Dog!

Yep. She took a direct mud bomb hit and laid on my backpack

    Chasing Girls!

Nephew has the Cow Tag at Fort Hunter Liggett for late December. We will see if he can get it done. It will be either my .30 06 or my brothers 7mm. John

    can labs fly?

My Blonde smoked many a Black Lab in both Upland and in the Blind. I hunted her until 13 years. Even with a terminal degenerative disease she was still getting it done. To be fair, my senior Black Lab is phenomenal. Nothing like a great Lab. John

    D16?

I have only been hunting deer for about 7 years. I pretty much just hunt D16 on only public. I shot my first Buck this season in D16 on a very busy day on public. So, yeah D16 public is hard. You have to work hard to get a shooter on public in D16. I am still stoked on that Buck I got and very...

    Wolf Update

That Wolf that made its way to Cali from Oregon got whacked by a car. Sounds like he made it down to around Kern before some Yuppie likely hit him with their Electric Car. I actually admired him. All this way solo and people concerned a Hunter or Rancher would shoot him. Instead, he likely got...
