Which Franchi did you get? I assume the Instinct O/U but the L, SL, etc.? I almost pulled the trigger on the Instinct L with the case hardened receiver but ultimately got a Beretta Silver Pigeon. That SL model is so light.. would be a great carrying gun for long upland walks.

My buddy got a CZ Upland Ultralight 20G and loves it. Super light gun as advertised. I'd bet that in a 12G, if they even make them, would kick like a mule at a sub 6 pound weight.

I have an A-Bolt II in .30-06 and it kills things pretty dead. But I also don't shoot at things that are 600+ yards away. If the deer's within 300 yards it's dead. If it's further than that, I'm getting closer.
Like they said, OnXMaps is a must these days but if you're a map nerd like me I highly recommend getting the quadrangle CNF map atlas. Google it - it's available on the USGS online store. I also like the BLM local maps (El Cajon and El Centro field office regions) but they're not as portable as...
Read the regs front and back. Buy some good boots and binoculars and start scouting country. Buy OnXMaps for your phone and paper maps to learn CNF, BLM, and CDFW lands...
