    Cibola Sportsman's Club

Anybody hunt geese there? I'm planning a guys trip and I want to hunt Sac but one of my buddies suggested I look into Cibola Sportsman. It's closer than Sac but my main concern is the number of hunters CS books. A group hunt is a 12 person min. WTH? I don't want to goose hunt with 12 - 15...

    New Hunter looking for help

Lung popper, I hunt that same area in the San Joaquin Valley every year. Problem is, there is nearly zero public land. Most just drive around and post up on a ditch bank on some farmer's field. We've run off tons of people from my dad's place. A few years back my uncle ran off a truck load...

    New Hunter looking for help

Easy answer... find someone who has a spot and tag along. As for the public opportunities, I'm not going to be much help. Although I've been dove hunting for many many years, I'm fortunate enough to have a father that is a farmer on great dove land....no you can't come :) Anyways, look at the...

    Vivid Memories of Waterfowling

My most fond memories are upland hunting with my dad. We've been upland hunting together every year since I was 13 (this year will mark my 20th consecutive year of hunting the dove opener with my pops). Quail are our bread and butter! My dad never was never really into waterfowl hunting. He...

    San Jacinto WA Walkabout....6-13-15

I would highly recommend SJ For a first timer's place. During check-in Tom will guide you to which blind to chose and will give you a map and will show you exactly where to park and how to walk to your blind. He'll even give you pointers on how to shoot it too. Best run refuge around.

    San Jacinto WA Walkabout....6-13-15

I was going to do the same with the wife and kid this morning too but the wife wasn't up for it. I would have run into you. Thanks for the photos. I heard SJ will be hurting for water more than usual this year. I think Jim Matthews wrote an article about it, but I can't recall. Hopefully...

    Duck call discussion

I agree. I don't even own an acrylic call. Mine are all wood or poly carb/plastic. I've never been a fan of those ringing, tinny-sounding notes. Primarily because I've never heard a duck or goose sound like that.

    Duck call discussion

Steve, another question for you.... I really like the older calls. I've never blown a PS Olt cut down keyholed, I'm sure you have. The damn things are like $90 and up on eBay. Are they worth the cash? It's hard to justify spending that kind of cash on a call that should realistically cost...

    Duck call discussion

Yep! I know plenty of guys who blow the call only while hunting. I have about two duck calls and a couple goose calls in the truck that I blow to and from work all year long. On a separate note, Steve I see you have an old mallard tone goose call. I have the same one but for the life of me...

    Duck call discussion

If you could only hang ONE call on your lanyard which one would it be and why? Even for me this is tough as I love my RNT calls but I ALWAYS use my old DR-85 as my go-to.

I think I broke my dog

"Broke" is usually a good term.... But I digress. My dog has never been gun shy, that being said, I don't shoot pistols or rifles around him. They are just too loud. Make the "bang" fun again. Play fetch and fire off a cap gun so she associates the "bang" with play. Take her out to shoot...

    Snow goose deeks

I don't have a lot of room. I've been looking at the Silosocks but some have told me they aren't that great and that I should only look into full body deeks. Thoughts?

    New to Hunting - Corona

Welcome! Hunting and fishing in the outdoors is such a great experience. Best advise I can give you: Talk to old timers. They are such a wealth of knowledge, and won't have you buying into the latest scent spray or Sitka camo pattern.

    foaming bore cleaner

I'm currently using the Safariland Break Free Bore CLeaner Foam. It works well. I only use bore cleaners on my rifles. My shotguns do just fine with Hoppe's #9.
