    Need help identifying these horns.

If it helps, the horns look black in the picture but they are actually a very dark brown. Up close they are stunning!

    Need help identifying these horns.

Backstory: My great great great uncle was a missionary in Africa in the 20's. He was also a big game hunter who hunted everything from elephants, rhinos, to Cape buffalo. My dad has a cool picture of him standing with a rifle of TWO dead Cape buffalos. Anyways, my great-grandmother passed...

Looking to possibly mount three CA quail

I shot three quail last season. So they've been in the freezer for over a year now. They are in freezer bags and still look like they are in great shape. I got a few quotes a year ago to have them mounted and the cheapest I could find was $450. I thought this was outrageous. If that's the...

    Whifflemaster or Kenny Begley??

I spoke with him on the phone last week. I really liked him. I've heard great things about Chris at Whifflemaster too so I wanted to get opinions.

    how to paint decoys?

I've hunted over decoys that were completely beat up with hardly any paint on them and they still worked. I'm not saying it's ideal but don't get too hung up on it.... Like sprig said, shapes and overall color pattern matter more than fine detail on your deeks.

    Whifflemaster or Kenny Begley??

Planning a goose hunt for next year for the Sacramento area. I hunted with Blake this year and stayed at Granzella's. I really loved Granzella's so I am looking for another guide that hunts the same area. Just want to try someone besides Blakes. I am torn between two guides, Whifflemaster...

    Crowded but managed to limit

I've been thinking about hunting BTs next year because I'm always looking for something new to try... Everyone talking about how crowded it gets makes me not want to go. I like to hunt to get out in the wilderness and to get away from people.... :(

    Heavy Wind and Quail behavior

I've been hunting quail since I was about 13 years old. I hunt a place that sounds a bit like the place you hunt, accept it's more rolling hills on the west side of the Sierra Nevadas. Those little guys are tough to pattern sometimes. Typically, the place where I hunt, when there is weather...

    25 shells at wister...?

Good advise from Sprig. You might find a sympathetic judge. I'm in court every month and you would be surprised how lenient judges can be. Sometimes it's sickening. Things like this remind me of a question I play in my mind at times, so I pose the question to this thread.... You are duck...

    25 shells at wister...?

It's like that at every refuge in the state. I've heard the fine is per shell. Sprig would know

    July 1st is fast approaching

It looks like a Warble Fly. I've had them in one of my rabbits before. They are pretty gross. I think they are pretty harmless to the overall meat consumption but I won't eat the rabbit. I've had rabbits with ticks and I've eaten those with no problems. Tularemia is very rare. It's named...

question for new or new to the area duck hunters

Just send a PM if you need anything. I hunt SJ the most, but I also hunt Mendota, Kern, Los Banos and Wister (but I'm no expert on Wister. Went for my first time this year).

    Crow Hunting

My first call I ever purchased was a wooden crow call from Big 5. I was a kid and I would blow that thing in my neighborhood while riding my bike and I would have a whole flock (yes, I know, murder) of crows following me on my bike. It was insane. The crow call works very well. Still have...

    type of waders?

Go breathable all the way, or at least a breathable upper.... We live in socal, at it's coldest, it's not cold. Go with a boot foot. Wister mud sucks (as I found out this year). Your foot WILL come out of the boot. Just get used to it at Wister. I found that if I walk on my tippy toes at...
