    Gear advice

Ok, so I ended another fun deer season with my day a couple weeks ago. Saw several does and a couple small bucks but nothing worth putting the crosshairs on. Anyway, to my point. I have a long list of upgrades I want to do, including spotting scope, pack, rangefinder, etc. I’ve decided to hold...

    Arizona Coues left over tags?

Can you not just buy a point and then buy a left over tag? I’m just getting into the info gathering stages of a possible couse hunt maybe in 2019 so I’m no expert at all. Just thought if here in CA I know I can buy points without applying for a hunt so hoping it’s possible in other, more hunter...

    Removing the Barrel and Accuracy

Old thread, I know, but I also shoot a Patriot, mine is in .308 and yeah, grouping under 1.5” at 100 yards is about all I’m expecting out of this rifle as is. Yeah, I could upgrade to a wood stock, I could have my action bedded, I could replace my current scope with something much more...

    Maps

No major complaints with onX. Much better since th overhaul. Used in conjunction with a NF Atlas or BLM map and it’s unbeatable.

    CNF or ANF?

Same here. Maybe he got turkey and quail mixed up.

Do your homework, if your being harassed.

Where I hunt, it is very common for non-hunters to drive up and down any road they can get their vehicles on and just lay on the horn. It’s a real nuisance but easy to ignore. Luckily haven’t had any bad face to face encounters. My dad do thank one guy that stopped next to us and just stared at...

    AO tag

Adding to the above, the more points you have, the better odds you have of drawing your first choice area. Example, if you put in for “PD” for 5 years, then on your 6th year you put in for G13, you have 6 “tickets” in the drawing. Once you draw said desired area, your points are reset to zero...

    CNF or ANF?

I don’t think CNF in Riv Co has any turkey. I would be thrilled if it did, but haven’t seen or heard any signs otherwise. A co-worker said he saw “tons of turkeys” near Tenaja area and “some of the biggest goblers ever” near Santa Rosa Plateau. Find it really hard to believe. Been to Santa Rosa...

Ortega highway produces big for my son

I did see what appeared to be a rather large turkey about 2 weeks ago just inside the fences near the Caspers main gate. I say what appeared to be because I didn't stop, but haven't seen whatever it was since. Would absolutely LOVE to find some decent birds up there though.

    Deer question.

Hey guys, I haven't hunted deer since I was a kid, back when D14 was still D11 I believe. Wife and I are planning on getting bows in the next couple of weeks and are going to be going out this year. I saw the proposed season dates and was wondering, can I bow hunt during the general season or...

    Old rifles.

Hey everyone, I'm going to be picking up a couple of old rifles. A Remington 700 in .308 and a Remington 721 in 30-06. I know the 700, both my dad and father in law have them and they are fantastic guns, it's the 721 I don't know. Aside from it being the "father of the 700", I can't find a lot...

    Pheasant/quail/doves

Haven't been up to Angeles Forest, but I did see some, what looked like, chukar near Lake Henshaw in Cleveland Forest yesterday. Only place I ever hunted for dove and/or qual was the San Jacinto Wilderness area, about 17 years ago. Used to see them all the time up in San Bernardino Forest...

So is anyone hunting fresh turkey for Thanksgiving? I want to live vicariously.

Tried yesterday, but had no luck. Hoping to get another chance before the season ends for a Christmas bird though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Fall turkey hunt.

Well, it was an unsuccessful hunt in that no turkeys were shot, but we did hear some bird talkin, just couldn't draw them in, and wasn't about to go climbing through thick dried brush in hopes of being quiet. Had two guys tell us there were no birds in the area, and I was starting to think they...

    Fall turkey hunt.

Is there a lot of hunters out there? Looking at an area in the Palomar mountain area, but don't want to encroach on a bunch of people. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
