    First Bird Dog, Maverick VonBirdfindr

Idaho is cool. They release pheasants every week during their season. Great way to get a young dog exposed to birds. We get hosed in Cali. Nothing comes easy in this State when it comes to hunting. Nothing like watching a young pointer on their first bird. Or any bird dog. The light switch goes...

    San Jacinto

SJ has been good if you can get on. This was from a couple of Wednesdays back on a refill. Secret spot. John

Ever wonder what goes on at the swamp when you are not there

I can’t Risk it. I will be napping and wake up and see those and slew them all. Too real. John

    Dog breeders

It is like a box of chocolates. You hope you pick a good one. My backyard Lab is a Chocolate Truffle. John

Not what I expected to see...

Yep. I think it was wounded by a hunter or died by some other way. Don’t see any signs of trauma to the neck or face. Mountain Lion would have crushed his pipe. A cat will drag off a shot deer and cache it. They eat out the liver and kidneys. I hate those things. John

    Dove Hunting

I am seeing and hearing plenty. The cover is remarkably thick and water sources are abundant. They can really be anywhere. I plan on hunting them once D16 closes. John

    Finished Hunting Dog

There are plenty of great Labs out there without Field Trial credentials who will smoke many a dog on pheasants and ducks in the field. Often times it is the time you put in and the bond that you make that will determine if you end up with a great dog. Plenty of train wrecks out there caused by...

    Shout out to Warden Rodney

He is a good Warden. I give him so much crap when I see him. I hunted pheasants when he was out with his family hunting a couple of years back. Great kids and wife was really good with a Shotgun. He has a good sense of humor once you get to know him. John

    Second Year on D16

Piece of advice. Don't post pics that actually hold shooter Bucks. And, you saw deer. That is a win. John

    Opening weekend 2023

We got crap Saturday on private. The pond was too low. Nice pics. You will end up hunting more for your dog then yourself. Watching your dog nail the retrieves is the fun part. Watching a young Lab figuring it all out in real time is truly a priceless memory. John

Deer hunting in the 60's. Honda Trail bike & Weatherby marketing movie.

Good video. Now we have Quads and Side By Sides. Tricked out rifles and Gouchi Gear. Hunting is what we make of it. We determine the experience we want to have. I say this as the X9a and X12 Zones have closed and our time in D16 is close to beginning . .John

A little trail cam action from the best "40" in the "16" while I was gone.

Damn. That is a nice size cat. Hope you are doing well Trig. John

Get um while you can...it's about to go down...

Done and I emailed that dumbass conservancy group as well. Such freaking BS. John

Get um while you can...it's about to go down...

Funny but true. Humans have had more of a negative impact on the habitat on Catalina than the deer. Then again, this is true everywhere. We are good at screwing things up. John

    Montana waterfowl opener....2023

You’re ready for SJ. Do you have your dog vest up when it gets cool or rainy? John

    E-Collars

Everything depends on the dog and it’s personality. However, you should not have to play dial a wheel to control your dog. But, you never know when your special dog decides to break on a running rabbit on opening day of pheasant season. I still remember that poor guy’s Lab was halfway across...

    E-Collars

I run SportDog on both of my Labs. If your dog is well trained you should not have to go with more than a low nick. John
