30 Nosler with a 168 gr McGuire Copper Rose at about 3220. 100 yards shot, dead broad side. Went through both shoulders. Made a mess of the heart and ruined about 4” of lung. It ran about 80 or so yards. No blood trail. Tough to put down. Guide says they nearly always run.
There were 6 other hunters on this hunt we filled 5 tags first night plus 1 guy wounded one.
Next morning the last tag was filled. After that everyone went out looking for the one that got away with no luck.
Took the shot. He stood up on his hind legs. When he got on all four, he ran.
I thought damn, suckers tough. He was busting off 4”diameter trees. But no blood, not a drop.
After a 50-60 yard hike, things started looking a little better.
Load work up with McGuires. 1/2 grain. Looking at speed and pressure signs. Then the 3 shot group. Looking at group size and again pressure signs. Take the best group and play with seating depth.
