    Desperation Move

Excellent point and totally concur. I have never seen movement and not been able to ID the type of animal, even foxes and coyotes. without binos (just mk1mod0 eyeballs). I have even seen people over 1,000yds (bright colored hikers and cammied hunters). Movement gets the attention, then you...

Darn - I missed this 3x3 while pinned down by does

Just checked camera pics on the 19th when I shot my little forkie. First pic is me coming down from the rocks the does had me pinned behind for four hours 10-2PM (9-1PM camera time), just after I shot the forkie. 2nd pic is a beautiful 3x3 that must have walked by while I was prone behind the...

    Desperation Move

I'm a movement hunter in D16. Only glass I bring out is my rifle scope. I constantly scan...think I pick up more deer that way than looking thru a tube. I will say I've never picked out a bedded deer like most of you in D16. But I can also say I rarely miss any deer moving within 3-400...

    Taxidermist San DIEGO

He might think about a DIY skull cap mount. I do it every year. Takes 5 mins with a saws all to cut the cap off...then 3 hours to boil the meat off the cap (use some soap and bleach in the water). Then about an hour screwing it into the wood from behind, along with the bullet. See below for...

2 young bucks this season. Public Land.

Nothing to be ashamed of...D16? Looks just like mine and I'm happy as heck to have him in the freezer! Good job to both of you! You'll love Idaho. I've done it for two weeks in Sep last three years. Been 30-50 yds from nice bulls each year but haven't be able to let the arrow fly. I've...

    Got Er Done..

First buck is a big deal and one he will always remember. Thanks for helping him make those memories. You can tell by the smile he is going to be one of the next generation of hunters.

    D-16 Buck down

Thanks for sharing. Getting off the beaten path like that pays dividends! Was out during that wind and the deer weren't moving cause two of their senses were taken away. Your spotting and then stalking is about the only way to skin the cat in that weather. Great Job!

Eight D16 bucks in 6 years and still have an A22 tag

Thanks all. Nice internment ceremony at Miramar for a great man today. Full color guard for a combat vet (two infantry tours in Vietnam) with 20 years in the army. Alzheimer's took him from us the last 15 years but I got to tell a good rabbit hunting story when I was 14 and he gave me "the...

Eight D16 bucks in 6 years and still have an A22 tag

Not on par with the last bucks but it's meat on the table which is always better than tag soup! 3 - 4 day excursions (11 nights in a tent, 8 gallons of water packed in and a 3 mile pack out) Second buck (on public) I saw in 12 days. First was a nice 3x3 at 190yds but his was only in my...

A few pix from this weeks deer hunts

First SoCal buck I gutted was full of oak leave...thought that was weird. Guess they do eat them. All the oak trees I walked by this weekend had tons of acorns under them due to the wind! No reason to eat the leaves for the next few days!

    D16 report

Wind didn't get any better...Monday morning was the worst for me. Birds weren't even trying to fly!!! Ditto on the AM windy sits...insulated rain pants and jacket made it bearable in 40MPH gusts.

    Young Meat down

Very nice. Glad you got it done! Like others have said...good eating there, especially how fast you got it in the fridge!

    Any reports from D16?

Another 4 nights out this weekend in D16 was a bust. WINDY and very little moving. Did glimpse a deer about 350yds out but it never came out from behind a bush...doe or buck was the question?? Well, 2 hours later I was able to stalk to 15yds and it turned out to be a bedded doe. Saw one...

    Every Predator but deer

Yeah, fresh tracks on top of my prints hiking from in day one when I hiked out day 4. Must be moving at night and maybe bucks have the does locked down. All I need is one to get tired of his gal and go look for another one. Black buck from last year is still a mystery to me. Weirdest thing...

Super job...too bad about the misfire. Maybe a blessing because two bucks would have been brutal.

    Every Predator but deer

Finally got out for 4 nights. Lots of fresh deer tracks so was expecting good action but nothing but predators Night 1 - Coyotes yipping all night. Day 2 - Roadrunner walked to within 20 yds Day 3 - Bobcat sat on a rock 35yds away for a 1/2 hour at sunrise. Then around 8AM a red-tail hawk...
