Nemo Sonic 0 degree down bag

Used 4 nights, too much bag for the 40 degree temps I hunt in. Would be great for temps in low 30s and below. Includes stuff sack and storage bag. Bag retails for $500, selling for $350 with pick up either in the Hesperia/Victorville area or Oxnard area. Can add actual shipping costs if you need...

Colorado Pagosa Springs GMU77 archery elk

At a recent family function I ran into a cousin who I hadn’t seen in probably 20 years. Turns out that he and a group of his friends are doing a 10 day backcountry hunt in this unit. So cool to find we had that common interest. I had no idea he was into hunting. I told him I’ve dreamt of a hunt...

    Last minute preference point question

I have X9a as 1st choice and D14 (premium this year) as my 2nd choice. Chances are slim I will draw X9a but I’m pretty sure I’d get D14 even as a 2nd choice. But if I do will I lose my preference points?

    The best buck ever

I know where he lives, I know his habits, I know all his friends. Had my bow drawn on him at 40 yards before he disappeared over a ridge. I know he ain’t much but after 3 years at this he is within reach so that makes him the best buck ever in my book...and I’m gonna get him.

    Wister youth hunt...so unprepared

When I checked on the CDFW website last week I somehow missed that my son had a successful draw for Wister on 2/4. I got the mail today and was surprised to find a CDFW reservation letter. So, his reservation number is 95, which from what I gather is pretty bad. I know very little about how...

Killed my first elk on Monday...

Not exactly how I envisioned it. Was not able to safely get pics of the elk but it was a stunning mature bull with massive antlers. Tried to see if I could salvage the animal but Nevada won't allow. Such a waste.

$7.00 game cam (not a typo)

Just happened upon these today on clearance at good old Walmart. The mounting style is a bit lame (no 1/4 20 threaded insert) but for this price I'll make it work. These will be my high risk cameras for those spots where I'm convinced someone will see them. They actually have a small TFT LCD...

    Busted water tank drinkers

While out scouting I have come across 4 water tanks, none of which were functional and all look like they have been out of commission for a while. It doesn't seem like it would take much to get them back up and running. Anyone know why they don't get fixed?

    D11 apprentice hunt coming up

My son and I scouted the hell out of D14 leading up to the general season. But because of my work travel schedule we had only 3 days to hunt and were not successful. Despite that I'm very happy because we got to know D14 and found some great spots. Silly mistakes were all that stopped us...

Trail cam goes out in a blaze of glory

Although my trail cam did not survive the blue cut fire, the SD card did. This is what it captured. Check out the time to get an idea of just how fast this fire was moving...

    First cottontail, first anything actually

My kid, this morning trying some small game hunting in the high desert. I missed, he didn't.

Putting in some work, but need group wisdom

My son and I have been doing desk scouting and identified some areas that look promising for deer. This will be our first year hunting so we're pretty green, but learning fast. We've hit the ground in three places in the past few weeks. Just trying to touch on them to see where we should be...

    High Desert Lurkmaster

Hi SCH people! I've been lurking around this forum for close to 2 1/2 years while trying to figure things out. I haven't posted until now because quite frankly, there isn't a question I've had that hasn't already been answered here. No one in my immediate or extended family hunts, nor do any...
