I can tell you 1/2" mild steel and a .270 is a bad combination, even at 400yds. I was amazed after emptying magazines of 9mm at close range and not seeing a scratch.
You can use any gauge, shot size or shell length for doves. Just has to be non lead. Only shot size restrictions are for waterfowl. No one should use 2's or larger for turkeys.
There is an option to hunt the island or the dike at the sign directing you to the island. 4 lane highways for levees and 300 yard wide ponds are far from ideal for killing ducks but apparently optimum for durability and water control.
