The best news I heard, and it was only briefly mentioned, was that funding for these projects has been secured. I think Chadd said something like $7M to be spent over the next 5 years. The knock on CWA has been that they only spend donation and grant money up north...clearly, that's no longer...

Yeah, it needs to be bone dry to fix it. There are several of these in W12. Hard to maintain water levels when you have big holes in your dikes. We need to keep a running list of issues like these. If guys want to post observations or pics, I'll maintain the list.

Wister campground update...back to soupy mess

Teal slam! Congratulations! I watched a pair of bluewings fly right past me last weekend. One of those, "hey, that was a bluewing" moments...

Heads up... Andrew mentioned that Wister won't get more water until after these storms roll through. If you hunt skinny water, be prepared. Davis is rough, but passable. The intersection with Beach is flooded/muddy, and the bridge at Scaup is sketchy as hell. Recommend coming in from the top...

I think closing the site was a bit of an overreaction. Could have posted a warning and let folks proceed at their own risk. Risk is a constant in our sport. I'm more worried about the results of that testing. If positive, then what? Opens another can of... cyanobacteria

You didn't miss anything in the afternoon...it was brutal. Got my first greenwinger of the season. Hopefully that's a sign of good things to come.

How did you guys stay on top of it back in the day, Steve? As a hunter, I was always disappointed to see one of my favorite areas "moonscaped", but that seemed to be the most effective way to manage overgrowth. A necessary evil. We seem to have gotten away from that practice. -Bring Back W11A

I hear ya, Steve. I hope we get the opportunity to talk to the staff about projects we'd like to seem them tackle. Budget and manpower will always limit what we can do, but if we knock off a project or two every year I think we'll see an improvement in no time at all. My to do list for Wister...

It's not all that bad...we're just having some fun with this. The place needs work, no doubt about it, but it's still a great place to hunt. The persistent hunter will get some birds.
