Gunna pick up a 22 here soon, was thinking of getting a 597. Has remington fixed the magazine feeding issue?
Has anyone had experience with the 597?

Is there a reason you want a auto loader versus a bolt action rifle?.....Or a .22 over a .17?

I obviously have .22's, but they became almost obsolete to me after purchasing a Savage .17 HMR.....I started with a stainless bull barrel, but changed to a standard barrel just because I carry it a lot and it seems just as accurate for all intensive purposes.....Ammo is readily available and really isn't that much more expensive.....Comes in green stuff (copper) too.

Trust me......You'll love the .17, regardless of brand.

Id want an autoloader for range fun purposes but im going to get a long rifle so maybe a bolt action would be good training and better accuracy. Ill look into it.

I agree with Steve and truduct If your getting an accurate hunting gun get a 17. If your wanting fun range That will hunt closer in get the 10/22. They are less then $200 and I’ve never had any of mine fail.

The most fun I’ve ever had is hunting jacks with the 10/22.

Stay far far away from the Remington

The Ruger American is a nice bolt gun that is reasonably priced.

I love my Ruger. But, I ordered some copper CSI ammo online just before the new year rules and I see that they’re only 21 grains. High velocity but seems like weak knock down power to me. Another thing to consider when choosing between 22 and 17 HMR. Good luck!

Get both! I love hunting rabbits with both my .22lr Marlin 60 (auto) and my .17hmr Savage 93r (bolt). I do prefer my .17 since it shoots like a laser, but an autoloading .22 is cool too for quick follow up shots. And I would definitely get a 10/22 over the Rem.. it's my next build actually.

I have very good luck with the 22 LR HP (Hollow Point) the 22LR Solid don't take the rabbits or squirrels out. they run off. I like the 22LR because of the minimal damage. hell I take rabbits and squirrels with 22 Cal Air rifle. HP Lead. but the 17 is deadly and accurate. and it's a good predator round as Steve said. I would like both. The 22 rounds are getting plentiful and Cheap Too. just know were to find it. a Box of 500 rounds is light and easy to carry. and last a while., and o yes go for the bolt action , ruger, but for rabbit the shotgun is my preferred weapon. much easier when the Rabbits are on the run. I take many more rabbits that way. especially when they are hunted hard, and are skittish.
