I took my 12 year old and two of clients on a pig hunt with Neil at GSGS over the weekend. Like always Neil didn’t disappoint. I wasn’t hunting I was just along to help out and drag pigs.
Friday night the kid put down a beast of a boar with his little Ruger American Compact 243 80g TTSX he missed him at 150 then put one A little far back but good enough at 250 and finished off with a rear knee capper on the run. Had the thing spinning like a gut shot coyote. He was pumped and this honestly made my trip. He wants this ugly bastard hung up in his bedroom @BOWUNTR he’s coming your way. He says he will use it to pick his wife if she sees the boar and says no way then she’s out and he’s onto the next one lol. Mom has given up at this point dead stuff is everywhere she’s just use to it.

Saturday morning we found some pigs but didn’t close the deal we spent the day fishing can’t go wrong with senkos and night crawlers.

Saturday night rolled around and I picked up a boar with the 15s about a mile out. Neil got my customer 250yds above him about a 45deg angle shot. He was shooting some new federal copper bullets out of his Savage 116 30-06 150g only paid $24 for 20 and they killed just as good as anything I have seen. He plowed him and the stinker ended up rolling into a stock pond cleaning himself up for us.

Right at dusk we came up on a cute little brown and black feller. He didnt want to play ball so my customer shot him on the run with my Tikka T3X 260rem 127g LRX. This combo has spilled a lot of blood over the past 3 years and it did its job like it always does.

Just like that three pigs were down and we were hanging out by the fire laughing and having a good time. The customers pigs are up at Specialty meats getting processed and I am making the boy process his own tonight when I get home from work. Nothing better than watching the kid smoke that boar. I can’t wait to get him out for deer season. His confidence level is up and when it came time to kill he was in the scope and on the trigger. Definitely has a lot of growing to do and some nerves to shake off but he got it done and he brought home the bacon.

Good stuff!! Good shooting from the boy! Showed him who the boss was. Always a good time hunting with kids. There great.

Great story and pics. Glad to hear about the .243 ammo performance. Time for me to start loading my .243 with copper.

Nice job, way to keep it going in the slow season.... good to hear about that federal copper too, those are good prices. I don't know if I can walk away from my beloved Barnes though.

Congrats on the awesome trip!

My tikka (and my dad's as well) shoots that cheap copper with more precision than any other ammo i've put through it (~0.5 MOA), however I just don't trust it for long range (>300 yards) due to the pretty low BC (about 1/2 of the barnes ttsx I use).

Congrats on a successful trip all the way around! And thanks for the great photos and report!!

Awesome... a weekend you guys will always remember!

BTW. How’d you pull off a trip like that on Mother’s Day weekend?
I told Neil and all the shooters to hurry up and don't miss that way we could get home Sunday afternoon. Stoked to wrap it all up Saturday night we got home around 2 yesterday.

What does 3 dead pigs cost these days? Asking for a friend.

I loved your story.
I also like the fact that you are teaching the kid that the job doesn't end when you pull the trigger. It continues with the processing of the animal. Later on it can be done at a butcher shop, but at the beginning I think that it is important for them to do the whole nine yards. And that is only my humble opinion.
Good job.

Dude!.... Your boy with that comment about hangin' it in his room and using it to figure out which girl is Wifey material... that's a Pimp decision right there! I tip my hat to that young man!

Sounds like that boy's already thinkin' way more correctly than most in terms of long-term relationship success!
