Hey gang,
Got a new to SD question.. Are there bears to be hunted in SoCal? If not, how far north/or east does one need go to get on some yogi's? Thanks

There have been bear sightings in San Diego Co. And even one killed a few years back, but are very very rare......San Bernadino Co./Bear Bear has bears and are huntable......The next closest areas would probably be Ventura, LA, and Santa Barbara Co's.......Kern Co. has a really good bear population (or at least did).

There's a good amout of bear by me in D14 so about 2 hrs north of you. Are you looking to use a rifle or bow?

Sweet. Doesn't seem too bad.. Couple hour drive to get into some huntable Bears.. And in regards to weapon choice? Hmmm.. I'm not to picky when it comes to bear hunting I guess, I like shooting my bow, but if the rifle gives me better odds at filling my first CA bear tag then I'd probably go that route to start with..

Next question, are bear tags OTC? And do I have to select a certain unit to hunt or is the tag good statewide? Thanks for all the replies so far! Very helpful and I really appreciate y'all's helpfulness!!

Bear tags are OTC, 1 tag is good for all zones
