This drill was done using a blank pistol firing 209 primers at about 75 yards away. We'll be doing this 2 or 3 times a week then gradually moving closer with the gun. I'd like to hear how all of you have introduced gun fire to your dogs?

Take dog in car to trap range. Act like nothin is going on windows up. Roll Windows down hang out, next go for a walk far away. Next go for a walk up close.

Never worry about it again

Steve, You are on the right track just take your time and slowly work in closer. One of the things we do is to have the gunner off in the distance and the handler in close with the dog , We'll put a wing clip bird down and let the dog play with it while the handler signals the gunner to cap the gun. Over time (several days) we move closer and closer with the starter pistol. Once we are comfortable that the dog is good with that we go to .410 shotgun at a distance and do the same thing working in closer over time. Just remember do it slowly if you gun shy a dog it many times is not fixable.
