Also I would suggest talking with the San Diego chapter of Back a country hunters and Anglers or BHA. They specialize in public land access and will get it resolved

I can tell you it is a good area I have hunted a lot of stuff near there. Contact BHA they should be able to put some pressure on fish and game to uphold our rights to our land.

Its CNF but its land locked by private property, the owner of that road will run you out of there real quick. When the land first got transferred we were told by ranger you could access through the east grade, then another ranger said theres no public access. It's our land but we cant access it. I love California.so i went out on saturday up to palomar mountain. an area where ive seen some bobcat before but failed to call in any coyotes. driving up the roads were icy and it was in the low 30's. parked and headed out and decided to set up my first stand with bob cat in heat. nothing. tried for an hour with no results. thought i saw a coyote trying to circle on me but it ended being a branch. saw sign but it seemed it was either from yesterday or the night before beacuse it snowed over night.

nevertheless i kept trying switch calls from bobcat in heat to different types of prey sounds. i would sit an hour and move on trying to cover land. nothing came. i came to the conclusion all the melt away since the sun had been ou and he temperatures climbing washed all the areas the mice and rabbits would hide and say rabbit track going up hill. so i followed and same result. with the temperature staying around hi 40's i then just started hiking to cover land and scout some waypoints i had plotted.

ended up climbing a few thousand feet in elevation and kept seeing sign but with no luck on the calls.
over all it was a fun trip out cant complain. waked 10.3 miles and climbed 2130 feet. found a USFS surveying monument at 5300 feet. nice view for lunch. going back down i had an encounter with a skunk that almost got me sprayed. so i added another species to my bow list.
like i said i cant complain i was out in Gods wilderness and tried to the best of my ability. i mouth called bobcat in het sounds and set up stands in both heat and prey with no results. either way my equipment kept up and i wasnt hurt.
what i learned.
-always bring your archers tools just in case something comes loose. had to use a zip tie to secure my quiver to my bow.
-check your boot laces every now and then. they just might come undone as you step in 3 feet of snow slosh (had extra socks whiched saved the day)
one last thing. as i came back to the car i had a note on my car saying i parked on a private road and Jeff valley had no public access. i will have to check up or does anyone have any information of that location.

You will have CNF law enforcement at the Tune-Up....Asking them face to face and maybe even getting it in writing may carry some water.

I agree, i have over the years been locked out of public sweet spots.
When spoke to The then DFG, they said I was SOL. Ugggggggggggg
Killed a few deer in those spots.
Or it was traded a way , puke.

Oh boy...as a new big game hunter, I cant begin to tell you the anxiety these type of reports give me.
As if hunting in SD wasn't hard enough, we have to deal with private land owners that dislike hunters and would take advantage of every loophole to make it even harder to hunt. It makes you wonder how bad do you really want to do this.
It seems to me, if you are going to be hunting public land since it is generally around private land, you better be ready to stand your ground and protect your rights, gather information. statements from law enforcement, gps tracking, maps, and hopefully support of some pro hunting organizations. It almost turns you in to an activist. Not that Activist is a bad word, but it adds to the list of considerations. The whole idea of hunting is to get away from people looking for solitude, fulfill your soul, and hopefully harvest legal game.
Maybe it is not all that bad, maybe is just certain corners of land that present a challenge...I guess I will find out.

I think these issues only occur when Land has recently been added to the National Forest. So @Wildgame don’t expect it would be a regular occurance. In 8 years of hunting in San Diego this is the first time I’ve had anything like this occur. On the other hand I’ve made great friends through hunting so the benefits far outweigh the few risks.

Spoke to Ranger Lee around 3pm today. Emailed him the first two pages of my write up earlier and just now finished it completely. Took a lot longer to write up than I thought but it’s detailed and it’s on his desk (email) now. Included screenshots from VRBO messages where the cabin owner approved everything in writing in advance. Also included an OnxMap with their ATV trail starting point.
