Thought this might generate some interest. Over the past 2-3 years I've been capturing images of a certain buck. At first I thought it was just an atypical forky, but over the years his rack has become more and more bizarre. He never looses his rack, and it just continues to add growth year after year. It looks like it's getting to the point where his sight may be affected. Attached are some of the images. You can see the progression of the growth. Thoughts?

Wow!.....I think I have pix of the same bucks.....lol.....This gene is pretty common in a certain area in San Diego Co.

Pix were taken during turkey season.....Antlers should have been shed.

Very cool. I would not think twice ablut shooting him. Weird and different are just as cool as big in my book.

cull the herd

I totally agree with this, but over the past couple of years I have yet to find this little guy during season. I'd just as soon put him down than see him suffer if his vision is affected. I believe in survival of the fittest, and quite frankly I'm surprised he's made it as long as he has.

To others that are suggesting genetics, it is my (admittedly limited) understanding that this phenomenon is produced when a buck suffers injury to its testes? Again, all I have done is read stuff posted on the internet, so that make me an expert, right? So regardless, if this is genetic or injury related, it follows that these bucks are not reproducing if the equipment isn't working correctly. If this is genetically related, I suppose it would be something similar to a recessive gene?

More questions than answers. Just need to find it and shoot it.
