Carrying a Rifle while Scouting for Deer

Do any of you guys carry a rifle while scouting for deer? I'm thinking about bringing my 243 on my scouting trips to help with training and for coyotes if I'm lucky enough to spot one. Since I'll be carrying a rifle during deer season, I might as well get a head start with a rifle that's lighter than the one I'll use during deer season. Also, if I have to move quickly in steep terrain during deer season, being used to having a rifle on my shoulder could really pay off.

Not typically when I am Scouting. Pretty much always just extra weight and I don’t care enough about killing a coyote to carry one. I like to be mobile and glass a lot.

I scouted with a guy who carried a combo 22LR / 12 gauge. He got a lot of weird looks from people, and two guys even followed us (saw them 5 minutes after us on a trail cam we setup, even though they had driven off after we chatted with them while parking). So expect questions, but it is legal. Get ridda them yotes! (Cotton tail season doesn’t open until 7/01)

I have never scouted but will always hunt in new places. I prefer a 12ga or Bow In the off season. Hunt coyote and you will know where everything else is before the season opens.
