I took the 17 year old grandson up by King City on his second pig hunt, and once again he will not have to eat tag soup. He passed up a smaller sow at first light hoping we would see better targets later on. She was with another sow and about 8 piglets. Not much later we came across a few pigs so he picked out the one he wanted and put her down at 233 yards.. Our friend Greg was next up. We weren't able to find anything he was interested in for a few hours later then we came across a few real nice size hogs, one decent boar which never offered a decent shot, so he settled on a big sow. Unfortunately she was on the side of a steep hill. When he hit her she dropped and started rolling down hill for what seemed like forever though it was only about 20 seconds. In any event she ended up way down in the ditch. I volunteered to stay and watch the quad while my grandson and the guide took the tow lines and headed down hill. Greg having bad knees kept me company while they were gone. They seemed a little winded when they returned with the pig, but I had just work up from a shot nap so it was hard to say for certain. I think it was their sweat soaked shirts that gave it away. Nothing beats a strong back. Very proud of the kid.
