This will be a recap this time around instead of the usual live hunt updates as I just decided to soak up the time with Pops while we were out there.
With my tag expiring NYE we headed east looking for deer. If I didn't know better I would have assumed we arrived in Arabia not Arizona. It was the driest I have ever seen it. Over the course of the hunt we found several dead cows and does stuck in the drying mud at the stock tanks. The warm weather was also working against us but it seems there is always something against you. I did manage to locate a good buck just a few hours into the hunt but the wise does he was running with made things difficult. However, a difficult stalk is something I cherish. After a couple of days checking on the group he was running with and other groups looking for other good bucks (to no avail) little did they know they made a mistake. They crossed through a dip, headed into the wind, with me on their tail. He was the last one and as soon as he went over the rise I close the ground quickly. I came over the rise and they were 53 yards out, the buck saw me but it was too late. The arrow was on its way. The rest is history.
A week and a half later with Javelina season open and a fresh set of 25' deer tags we headed back out. I never ended up turning up a mature buck. However, I located some stink pigs and pops went in the for the stalk. Stalking these are pretty uneventful but he made a good shot. The following day I located another group and repeated the process. The final AM while still looking for a mature buck (we saw plenty of spikes and sporks) we relocated some quail and let them have it as well. What a wonderful couple of weekend hunts and time with family.
