Copper.....How Good Is It Really?

John,

As you know, I don't know squat about rifle stuff.....Why is the copper Barnes X better than the copper GMX?.....Does Barnes have it available on a factory load?

Yes Barnes Vor-Tex is a factory loaded Barnes TTSX offering. And copper is no different than lead when it comes to bullet manufacturers. They all have performance characteristics. The GMX tends to be more finicky regarding accuracy and does not have the explosive expansion that the Barnes "X" does. My observations are base on personal experience as well as discussions with many customers.

I'm gonna try and straddle the line with my reply because I use both. Copper in my opinion is not a failure, It works period. I personally prefer an entry and exit wound so the animal can bleed from both sides. High quality lead is very good as well no doubt. I have had the opportunity to watch many animals from pigs to deer and elk fall to both. Both work well when properly utilized.

Found what's left of a 115g Barnes TSX from a 25-06

Only problem I've had with copper so far. Fortunately I had a follow up shot... under 100 yard chest shot from a buck I killed in 2013.
