Whats going on fellas,

Im planning on heading up to SB on a weekend scouting trip, read a recent article in western outdoors that said they had solid numbers of cotton tails and jacks running around up there. Just wondering if its worth bringing the shotgun and a couple hand fulls of shells with me on the scout.

Worth it or not? I haven't been up in that area in a long time so i dont want to lug around that extra weight if its not worth it..

Thanks guys,
-AL

its ALWAYS worth it. unless your trying to scout for other game. i tend to leave the guns behind if im scouting so i can concentrate on the scout. but if your just going to hike around and take a look id take them

Im planning on scouting mostly for turkeys , looking to roost some ideally. But that's obviously just a morning thing so ill have the rest of the days to learn /scout the land. The first couple days im planning on scouting for muleys but the last day id like to get some cottons if possible.

Worth it. Better to have it or you would really feel dumb when the rabbits and birds are circling/laughing around you.

If you're looking for rabbits you should be able to find them in the SB desert/BLM areas so I'd definitely bring a shotgun/shells just in case. When I'm scouting around I'll usually just sling the unloaded shotgun onto my back/shoulder so it's easier to carry. Then when you're ready to hunt you can just put in a few shells.

Just seen my first Jack this weekend. But it was up in the Palmdale area. We were visiting with a friend for new years. And doing some recon for trailheads and camps to start scouting for Spring Turkey. Sadly I didnt have my .22 or shotgun with me. Wont make that mistake again.

yeah I took out my 17 HMR for rabbit and all the Quail came out to play.
I gotta get a .22 / 410 over under.
