So I’m looking at some spots on OnX as possible places to scout for turkey. One spot in particular is in between county of San Diego parks and rec property and right next to it is just San Diego county property. I’m fairly new at this but my understanding is that I CAN hunt both these properties as long as I’m 150+ yards from and dwelling, buildings, blah blah blah. I just want to make sure that I’m correct in my assumption before I head out there and hike for nothing.

You cannot hunt SD property. There are some spots that I hunt where I walk through SD County to get to CNF. As a rule of thumb look for green CNF and yellow BLM.

Brandon,
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but in addition to NF and BLM I believe you can generally hunt Bureau Of Reclamation land. OnX identifies it, mostly in the desert.

You can hunt all sorts of land in most states you can hunt state land. You can also hunt refuge and wildlife areas etc. but as a general rule in D16 look for green CNF and yellow BLM and you will be safe.

I use onxmaps it’s $29.99 for one state for one year. I use my phone and download maps when there is no service but you can also use it in a GPS. Comes in handy to ensure I am in the right area.

Be careful crossing any property that does not belong to you....That includes county & city properties.....If there's an legal easement (PCT for instance), no problem.....If not, you would be trespassing.

I’m actually using onX as stated in my first post. Still kinda getting used to looking at the layers and all and definitely liking figuring out the maps

I'd invest in a paper CNF map as well.....They can be purchased at the main office in Rancho Bernardo or any office in the back country....I like Goose Flats office on Black Cyn Rd. in Ramona.....They're real close to turkeys and may give you a tip........;)
